Mainstreet Murphy and UNC Greensboro Mainstreet Fellows Collaborate on Innovative Facade Design for 53 Peachtree St in Murphy, NC
MURPHY, NC — [November 14, 2023] — Mainstreet Murphy, a department of the Town of Murphy, proudly announces the successful completion of its inaugural collaboration with the UNC Greensboro Mainstreet Fellows program. The first joint project focused on the transformative facade design of 53 Peachtree St in Murphy, marking a significant milestone in the town's revitalization efforts.
The Mainstreet Fellows program, an initiative by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, connects students with North Carolina Mainstreet communities to engage in hands-on, real-world projects. In partnership with Mainstreet Murphy, the Fellows undertook the challenge of reimagining the exterior of 53 Peachtree St, a key property in the heart of Murphy.
The project aimed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the building while preserving its historical significance, aligning with Mainstreet Murphy's mission to revitalize the town's core and create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. When he was approached by Mainstreet Murphy with the opportunity – David Turner, owner of 53 Peachtree St, jumped at the opportunity. “With the help and guidance of the UNCG Mainstreet Fellows program, I have complete confidence in the design, color(s) and historical accuracy of the enhancements to this property,” said Turner.
These free, façade design services are available to all commercial building owners in Downtown Murphy who are undertaking improvements.
