Murphy, NC, May 23, 2023 – The Town of Murphy is thrilled to announce the successful completion of construction on the highly anticipated Confluence Loop and Fisherman’s Loop. This significant milestone marks a moment of great pride and excitement for the entire community of Murphy, as the project's completion brings enhanced recreational opportunities and a more resilient trail experience including added fishing amenities.

The Confluence and Fisherman’s Loops, key sections of the Murphy River Walk and Canoe Trail, have undergone extensive improvements and are now open to the public. The loops offer breathtaking views of the majestic rivers and its surrounding natural beauty. Local residents and visitors alike can now fully enjoy this magnificent outdoor space, engaging in various activities such as walking, jogging, fishing and picnicking while immersing themselves in the picturesque scenery.

One of the major improvements implemented during the construction phase is the elevation of the existing boardwalk on the Confluence Loop and a new 200-foot extension of the Fisherman’s Loop boardwalk. The boardwalks ensure the trail remains above the high-water line for much of the year, particularly during the summer months when water levels rise and our lakes and rivers become ideal for outdoor recreation. The improvements allow for year-round accessibility and minimizes most disruptions caused by fluctuating river conditions. Outdoor enthusiasts can now explore the Confluence and Fisherman’s Loops without concern, enjoying uninterrupted moments of tranquility and connection with nature. In addition to boardwalk improvements, heavy riprap was installed underneath the Leech Place boardwalk bridge to protect it from erosion.

The Town of Murphy would like to extend a sincere appreciation to Kephart Construction Company for their exemplary work in bringing the upgrades to fruition. Their expertise, craftsmanship, and attention to detail have contributed significantly to the successful completion of this important project. The Murphy community is grateful for their partnership and commitment to delivering outstanding results.

The completion of the trail improvements represents a significant milestone in the ongoing development and enhancement of the Murphy River Walk and Canoe Trail. It exemplifies the collective efforts of the community, local authorities, and dedicated organizations working together to create an exceptional recreational space for all to enjoy. The Town of Murphy invites residents and visitors to discover the wonders of our local trail system and experience the natural beauty and tranquility it offers.

The project was funded by monies from the State’s Capital Infrastructure Fund – and earmarked for the Town of Murphy by Senator Kevin Corbin and Representative Karl Gillespie.
